Articles 1-18 of the OR are of such a fundamental nature that they can also encompass the latest developments, such as "smart contracts" based on blockchain technology and electronic commerce in general. However, certain adjustments to the law have become necessary, such as for electronic signatures (Article 14 IIbis OR) and electronic public notarization (EöBV).

The commentary also questions seemingly established principles, advocating for a purely objective-concrete interpretation in the context of Article 18.
