Product details

"Gewalt und Rausch" (Violence and Intoxication) kicks off the series "Berlin in Prose" with literary texts full of the grotesque, violence and delusional forms of expression that were written in the environment of Franz Pfemfert's legendary magazine "Die Aktion": Carl Einstein's "Bebuquin oder die Dilettanten des Wunders" (1906/09), Georg Heym's "Der Irre" (1911), Alfred Lichtenstein's "Café Klößchen" (1912) and Walter Rainer's "Kokain" (1918) tell of life in the thicket of the big city in garish, grotesque images. "Berlin in Prose. Eine kleine Bibliothek der Moderne und Gegenwart" brings together texts from the 20th and early 21st centuries that were written in Berlin, have the great city as their subject and express the spirit as well as the aesthetic signature of their respective epochs. In the end, a small Berlin literary history of modernism will emerge from all the stories. The narrative arc will span from Expressionism to Digital Bohemia, bringing together both well-known and forgotten authors. 1 Violence and Intoxication 2 Shiny Asphalt.
