Berlin love escapes

The novel is a journey through political and personal worlds in Istanbul, Berlin and New York. The married chemistry professor Kemal tries to suppress and cover up his own inner despair at the perceived futility of everything he does by taking drugs and having sex with other women. He hides this from his wife Zuhal, a sensitive fashion designer. Even in his old age, he still hasn't found the right way to deal with personal freedom in order to be able to live with it in a healthy and harmonious way. Zuhal has a silent, habitual relationship with her husband. Kemal does not realise that she suffers from episodic depression and often thinks about suicide. Their son, Kenan, is a journalist and writer, very vain, but likeable and cheerful. His relationship with his parents, especially his exalted father, is contradictory.
