Product details
Eduard Spranger, one of the pioneers and main representatives of humanities-based pedagogy in Germany, primarily regarded himself as a philosopher. For him, philosophy was the key to pedagogy and psychology—disciplines he significantly represented during his fruitful work in Berlin and Tübingen. This is the first attempt to capture the philosophical thinking of the scholar in terms of its roots and its uniqueness. Spranger's major works are examined from a contemporary perspective and placed within historical contexts, with particular focus on the fields of cultural pedagogy and value philosophy. It becomes evident that being "gripped by the spirit" can still hold relevance and impact in our time. Research projects that focus on Spranger's thinking demonstrate that his intellectual legacy offers alternatives to prevailing philosophical and pedagogical doctrines.
