Product details

Beethoven once reported that he wrote down his last three piano sonatas (op. 109, 110, 111) in one go between 1820 and 1822. In fact, they form an internally coherent group. Beethoven dedicated his very last sonata, No. 32 op. 111 in C minor, to his patron, Archduke Rudolph of Austria. Shortly before, the composer had also dedicated his famous 'Missa Solemnis' to him. In fact, Beethoven's last sonata is regarded by experts as the great, concluding climax of his piano sonata oeuvre. Its unusual two-movement structure combines grandeur and simplicity. This carefully edited Henle Urtext edition offers a solid basis for dealing with one of Beethoven's most difficult piano sonatas.
