Product details

In autumn 2008, Till Fellner, one of the most renowned pianists of the younger generation, will launch a Beethoven cycle. Spread over seven concerts in two concert seasons, he will perform all 32 of Beethoven's piano sonatas in their entirety, including in New York, Tokyo, London, and Vienna, as well as at the Stadthaus in Winterthur. In collaboration with the Konzerthaus Vienna and the Musikkollegium Winterthur, an attractively illustrated volume on Beethoven will be published alongside this concert series. In detailed commentaries on the works, he provides information about the creation and artistic significance of Beethoven's piano sonatas. He also offers insights into the varied history of interpretation of these sonatas from Beethoven's time to the present day. Till Fellner discusses his own relationship with Beethoven and his piano sonatas in an extensive interview. The book is complemented by a chapter on Beethoven and Winterthur, which documents for the first time the pioneering Beethoven activities of significant musicians like Furtwängler in the musical city of Winterthur. Additionally, a historical excursus illustrates what once set the musical tone in Winterthur during Beethoven's time.
