Becherhaus – Einsame Schutzhütte über den Wolken

The Becherhaus, built in the distant year 1894 by the Hanover Section of the "German and Austrian Alpine Club", is the highest refuge in South Tyrol and is owned by the province. The hut is enthroned at 3200 metres on the summit of the Becher in the Stubai Alps and overlooks the Übeltalferner, the largest glacier in South Tyrol. The reader not only gains exciting insights into the history of the refuge's origins and development, but also into the varied and often dangerous work of the hut's host Erich Pichler, who managed the hut with his family in summer for almost exactly two decades. The author Christjan Ladurner, himself an experienced mountaineer, has succeeded in packing the memories of the hut warden into an exciting narrative.
