The Sorbian/Wendish life in the Dahme-Spreewald district (Lower Sorbian: Wokrejs Dubja-Błota) is rich in traditions and customs. To this day, the Sorbs/Wends have preserved their own language, culture, and identity. They enrich and shape the region, located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Spreewald, in numerous ways through the maintenance of various traditions and customs. The charming appearance includes Sorbian/Wendish costumes, which are worn on special occasions in many places. This volume provides an overview of Sorbian/Wendish history, the development of customs and costumes, as well as the people who feel connected to their homeland, the culture, and the language of the Sorbs/Wends in the Dahme-Spreewald district. It documents the efforts of many dedicated individuals, not only Sorbs/Wends, and also highlights ways in which tradition and language can be preserved.
