Product details

The art historian and founder of Saxon monument preservation, Cornelius Gurlitt, describes the architectural and artistic monuments of the noteworthy Saxon city of Bautzen in this volume from 1908. Bautzen was first mentioned in the year 1002 as civitas Budusin. Dominating the city is the Ortenburg, whose white Renaissance gables are particularly striking. At the southwest corner of the old town, visible from the Friedensbrücke, is the city's most distinctive ensemble, consisting of the Old Waterworks and St. Michael's Church. However, the most significant ecclesiastical building in the city is the Petridom, which serves as a simultaneous church for both Catholics and Lutherans. The New Waterworks is located south of the city center. Due to its castle complex and distinctive city panorama, Bautzen has been referred to as the Saxon Nuremberg since the 19th century.
