Bauteile wiederverwenden
German, Eva Stricker, Marc Angst, Guido Brandi, Barbara Buser, Andreas Sonderegger, 2021Product details
Building with reused components is currently one of the most discussed phenomena in European architectural discourse. When building elements that can last for decades are not destroyed but reused for new constructions, it not only saves resources but also drastically reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions during the construction phase. This so-called circular building raises a multitude of diverse questions—ranging from technical and energy-related to legal aspects. This is increasingly relevant today, even though the phenomenon itself has a long-standing tradition; for millennia, decaying buildings have been repurposed for new construction activities.
This book provides a comprehensive compendium that addresses all questions regarding the reuse of building components in detail. It is illustrated through a concrete example: the K 118 main building at the Winterthur storage site, which is the largest building in Switzerland primarily made of reused components. Since 2018, this unique pilot project has been evaluated within the framework of an interdisciplinary research project concerning architectural-constructive, energy, economic, procedural, and legal questions. All findings are compiled in this book and presented in a highly illustrative manner, both content-wise and visually.
