Product details

The basic work on basal stimulation in nursing care

Basal stimulation is used to support people in crisis situations in their lives whose communication and regulation skills are significantly limited or permanently impaired. The concept focuses on the abilities of perception, communication and movement. Basal stimulation is a form of holistic, body-based communication for people with significant disabilities. Bienstein and Fröhlich show how caregivers can address, activate, invigorate, touch and soothe people with sensory offerings. Specifically, they describe key areas of nursing action with regard to breathing, bathing, rubs (ASE), full and partial washing, dressing, positioning, mouth care, mobilization, positioning, washing and swallowing support.
Basal stimulation is understood as

  • offering physical and holistic learning
  • comprehensive stimulation of development in early phases of life
  • orientation in unclear perception, communication and movement situations
  • stress reduction for people in stressful borderline situations and health crises
  • Accompaniment of people in their dying process.

The basic work on basal stimulation in nursing provides a good overview of its subject, basic understanding, actors, topics and elements.
The 9th edition has been completely revised, newly illustrated and expanded to include the topics of family members' perspective, touch in times of pandemic, inclusion, research, corporeality, places of care, primary nonverbal communication, health care proxy and team.

Basal stimulation is used to support people in crisis situations in life, whose exchange and regulation skills are significantly limited or permanently disabled. The concept focuses on the abilities of perception, communication and movement. Basal stimulation is a form of holistic, body-related communication.
