The double volume EMP kompakt for students, teachers and interested parties brings together the basics of elementary music education in a comprehensive compendium for the first time. While a reference work providing an overview of key terms and background information was previously lacking in this field, this publication fills the gap. In the handbook, the editors Michael Dartsch, Claudia Meyer and Barbara Stiller cover the history of the subject, its study, anthropological dimensions, didactics, psychological backgrounds and professional fields. The encyclopaedia includes around one hundred articles on important specialist topics such as digital media, improvisation, heterogeneity, teamwork and various target groups. These specialised articles were written by teachers at universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
