The first woman in photojournalism made a name for herself with her portraits, particularly for the weekly press in the 1950s to 1970s. She always subordinated herself to the subject and waited patiently for her chance. Barbara Pflaum's composition, irony and wit, as well as her preference for images that explain situations yet still hold a mystery, make her photographs intriguing even today.
