Zwangsjacke Bachelor?! Stressempfinden und Gesundheit Studierender

Since the Bologna Declaration was adopted in 1999, extensive reforms have taken place at German universities. The Bachelor/Master system is often criticized for its limited choices in conjunction with increased examination pressure. However, there has been little research to date on the impact of these structural conditions on students' well-being. The Demand-Control model by Karasek (1979) is a well-established psychological model in the workplace that demonstrates high health risks when high demands are combined with low decision-making freedom. Authors Laura Schmidt and Julia Obergfell examine the effects of different study structures (BA, diploma, modular diploma programs) on the physical and mental health of students using this model. The differences that arise according to the Karasek model are presented.
