This work addresses the question of what significance one-sided gender attributions can have for child development. It highlights how children perceive and deal with gender attributions themselves. Subsequently, it examines the influence that schools and teachers can and should have on the development of critical reflection regarding one-sided gender attributions. In this context, a practical school example is provided, presenting a lesson sequence focused on gender stereotypes in German language classes for elementary school. It explains how a direct approach to the topic can be created without overwhelming the students. The lesson unit is intended for grades 1 to 3. Since the unit is based on a picture book, it first outlines what a picture book is and what relevance picture books can have for children's socialization. It discusses which picture books might be suitable for addressing gender stereotypes with elementary school students and introduces the picture book that is central to this work.
