In the late 1970s: In the Ivorian metropolis of Abidjan, Aya lives with her two friends Adjoua and Bintou. Aya is 19 years old, the age when everything seems possible – perhaps even studying medicine against her father's wishes, who would prefer to see his daughter married sooner rather than later. While Aya dreams of a future as a doctor, Adjoua and Bintou spend their nights in the local dance bars, driving their friend to distraction with their chaotic love lives. Whether it's the upcoming "Miss Neighborhood" elections or Aya's lively little siblings, of whose existence she had previously been completely unaware – in Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie's vibrant "everyday drama," anything is possible and nothing is as it seems (Süddeutsche Zeitung).
