Game studies have gained significant attention in recent years and are notably conducted in a multidisciplinary manner. However, despite an Iconic Turn, there are few approaches that explicitly engage with the imagery of video games. Starting from the diverse forms of representation of the avatar - the graphical representative of the player - Benjamin Beil explores a new approach to contemporary video games that combines ludological and narrative aspects from a visual studies perspective, presenting the avatar as an interface between space, interaction, interface, and perspective.
