Product details

The writer Elfriede Jelinek and the painter Maria Lassnig are among the most important representatives of their generation. This book subjects selected works by both artists to an intermedial comparison, creating a bridge between literature and painting. Central to this analysis is primarily Lassnig's and Jelinek's specific approach to the human body—whether as an artistic motif, as a component in the artistic production process, or as a conceptual figure in theoretical and philosophical discourse. Significant parallels emerge in the representation, or rather construction, of body images in the works of both artists. In particular, the recourse to three central artistic methods forms a connecting element: the fragmenting, animalizing, and objectifying of the predominantly female body.
