Self-testimonies represent important documents for understanding the era of National Socialism. This volume gathers contributions on autobiographies that were collected as part of scientific competitions during the time of National Socialism. They refer, on the one hand, to the 1934 study "Why Hitler Came into Power," conducted with supporters of National Socialism, and on the other hand, to the 1939 study initiated at Harvard University titled "To All Who Know Germany Well Before and During Hitler - My Life in Germany Before and After January 30, 1933." The authors make research perspectives and potential insights accessible that can be generated from the diverse manuscripts. The self-testimonies of former National Socialists and displaced Germans are also utilized to trace individual and collective biographical processes. The authors address, for example, mechanisms of orientation in national 'we' communities, motives for joining, and strategies for alleviation. The contributions indirectly and directly inquire about the research perspectives and knowledge potentials that can be derived from the diverse manuscripts.
