This requires more and more flexibility and also leads to an increasing IT penetration. The application and technology landscapes, on the other hand, have often grown over decades and are correspondingly complex. Adequate strategies must be developed to meet such often competing challenges. The consistent renewal of used information technologies and the selection of new platforms for enterprise applications are essential factors for success. This thesis starts with a general discussion of information systems, enterprise applications and challenges in information management. The following parts develop exploratively a general procedure model and a criteria catalogue as a basis for concrete actions.
