Austria and its Headquarters Economy

As an economy, Austria is known for its bridging function between Western and Eastern Europe. Thanks to this role, the country has also developed into an attractive location for corporate headquarters, which significantly contribute to Austria's economic performance with important employment opportunities and tax revenues. However, there is still little transparency regarding what the headquarters economy in Austria looks like, which corporate headquarters it hosts, and what specific characteristics it has. This edited volume approaches the Austrian headquarters economy and attempts to provide some answers to open questions. The editors and contributing authors focus not only on the current status of corporate headquarters based in Austria but also highlight historical developments and discuss how the advancing digitalization will impact Austria and its corporate headquarters. The insights allow policymakers and managers to better understand Austria's attractiveness as a location for corporate headquarters and to further improve the headquarters economy in Austria.
