A unique voice At the age of 54 Helga Rohra was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. She plunged into a depression. When she spoke publicly about her dementia for the first time in early 2010, she still did so under the pseudonym "Helen Merlin". A lot has happened since then: Helga Rohra has become an activist who intervenes to advocate the cause of people with dementia: On the board of the Alzheimer Society in Munich, in the media and at dementia congresses. "I have dementia, so what?" is her motto when she talks about her experiences with non-dementia patients. There are psychiatrists, for example, who publicly doubt that she suffers from dementia. Or the members of social professions who feel overwhelmed in dealing with her. And the neighbours and friends who stammer helplessly: "You poor thing, you're demented now too!" With acumen and a good sense of humour.
