It catalogues, in alphabetical order, terms, individuals, and matters that are significant to the life, work, and teachings of Augustine. To present broader contexts, the AL not only addresses Augustine's biography and writings but also incorporates his ecclesiastical position, the personalities around him, and the contemporary historical context. The AL presents the terms characteristic of Augustine's thought, taking into account both the Christian and pagan-antique traditions. The articles are written by internationally recognized Augustine specialists from their respective fields and are published in German, English, or French. Augustine himself is quoted in the original text. Each article concludes with a comprehensive bibliography.
