Aufbruch der Reformation

The new four-volume selection edition is oriented less biographically to the development of Luther's theology than to the effect achieved by the 'Luther event': it brings his 'Reformation' writing to the fore, arranged according to themes, in those dimensions that were momentous for the change of the existing ecclesiastical system and became permanently formative for the construction of a Protestant church. The textual arrangement aims at preserving the original language sound, as far as Latin writings are not translated into High German: In vocabulary, phonetic and formal status, the text of the Weimar Luther edition is retained unchanged. Cautious orthographic modernizations serve as reading aids.
