Due to the issues arising from the manual recording of attendance in schools and universities in Nigeria, an automated attendance system needs to be implemented. The problems include the difficulty of maintaining an attendance list over a long period, unnecessary time wasted on writing or signing, improper documentation, students forgetting to write or sign the attendance list, lecturers forgetting the attendance list in the classroom, students illegally writing or signing for an absent person, and more. This book presents an automatic attendance system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in Nigerian educational institutions, which offers the functionalities of student registration and attendance recording. The study addresses the shortcomings associated with the manual attendance system through an automated approach implemented with the help of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
