As far as Spain's hope carried us

Eighty years ago in the summer, Spanish soldiers under General Franco started their uprising against the Republic, thus starting the Spanish Civil War. The present anthology was created on this occasion. The editor Erich Hackl writes: "In a few years, there will be no one left to associate personal experiences with the events; and anyone who wants to relive the first long, bitter and most exciting defensive struggle against fascism, under apparently completely changed political circumstances, will have to rely on the literature that was created under the impression of the events. It gives, more precisely than a work of history, information about what people hoped for at that time, what they won and lost, what would have been possible. The volume brings together 46 texts, stories and reports, written in German.
