Bob Steffen was the dazzling star among the window dressers in stuffy post-war Bern. His exuberant environments for fur, fabric and lingerie were as much the talk of the town as the gay bon vivant, globetrotter and nonconformist himself. Coming from the simplest of backgrounds, he slept his way up the jet set of the gay beau monde as a nobleman/nude model and developed into a successful decorator who remained at the centre of Bern's bohemian scene until his old age. Flamboyant and shamelessly promiscuous, he lived according to his own rules and cared a little about the norms of bourgeois society, just as he was a window dresser who fouted the standard of "good taste". Bob Steffen left behind a rich legacy of pictures in which Art Décor delves to show kaleidoscopic facets of his life. It was annoying.
