Aristotle's "Politics" is the foundational text of political philosophy: the first systematic treatise on the state, its constitution, and its economic foundations. After analyzing the concept of rule, Aristotle develops the thesis that man is by nature a political animal. The political community is understood as a self-sufficient unit that should enable the good life of its citizens. Engaging with other theoretical frameworks and the diversity of existing political orders, Aristotle explores a wide range of topics, from civic virtues and laws to the establishment, change, and preservation of constitutions, as well as the design of an ideal state. The cooperative commentary reconstructs the arguments of this multifaceted text in 12 original contributions and contextualizes the central questions.
