Kruttingen, a fictional village in the Swiss Mittelland: only a few days after his mother's death, Georg returns to his home village. His sudden appearance throws his family and childhood friends into turmoil and upsets the village's fabric of relationships.

During his absence of almost 20 years, Georg has become a projection screen for the various characters' own wishes and longings. His unexpected return means for them a confrontation with a - more or less unwelcome - reality and acts as a catalyst for conflicts and changes that can no longer be postponed.
