Few architectural phenomena are as discredited as late historicism, whose artistic conditions for success seem to have been delegitimized by the cultural upheaval of the Fin de Siècle. Although the style of architecture around and after 1900 represented the bourgeois-capitalist era, it also encompassed innovative approaches and eclectic continuations. Christian Rabl systematizes these stylistic architectural advancements in their individual phenomena, including the late historicist urban aesthetics of Madrid, Bucharest, Riga, Barcelona, and Karlsbad.
