Product details

Strategies and methods are essential building blocks of design practice. They form the tools of architects' trade and shape their working methods as well as their understanding of architecture. The foundation for this is laid by professional training. But how can the complexity of today's design practice be conveyed? How can an understanding of social, historical, political, construction-economic and design contexts and strategies of design be taught holistically within the framework of teaching?
At the heart of the concept of ArchitekturWerkstatt, founded in 2017 as part of the University of Applied Sciences St.Gallen, now OST - Ostschweizer Fachhochschule, is the idea of understanding architecture and the discourse on architecture as a craft that is conveyed in the joint work in a workshop. Like an atlas, this book invites the reader to take a walk through different architectural, spatial and material studies created in the workshop. It documents an understanding of architecture that condenses into an artistic teaching method in the ArchitekturWerkstatt.
With contributions by Katrin Albrecht, Mark Ammann, Werner Binotto, Roger Boltshauser, Katharina Immekus, Anna Jessen, Lorenz Kocher, Claudia Komrei, Jonathan Sergison, Othmar Somm, Ulrich Vogt, Sebastian Wörwag, Lukas Zurfluh, Anke Fessel and Marcel Geissler.
