Apulien und Basilikata

Caribbean-like sandy beaches along the Ionian Sea and wild, rugged cliffs along the Adriatic Sea – these are the two sides of Apulia that have been attracting more and more travelers to the heel of Italy for years. Between the seas lies the land of the famous Trulli, the Sassi di Matera, ancient olive trees, prickly pears, and ILVA, the largest steelworks in Europe.

Many of the authors write about work and migration: farmers who have moved from the fields to the factories – to Bari or Taranto, to Switzerland or America. Young people who go to Milan or Berlin and return for a few weeks every summer, only to be viewed with the same suspicion as other tourists. Young people arriving from Albania and African countries to work in the fields.

What they all carry with them are the memories of their childhood land on one side of the same sea.
