Product details

The crisis of French society—and of Western society in general—raises a fundamental question: should we envisage the disintegration of the democratic system? And, as a consequence, what system would then be capable of replacing it? This work combines instantaneous analysis and the study of long-term processes to analyze the political and economic situation and the evolution of family structures. This investigative work will focus, among other topics, on the fundamental religious character of the current crisis (religion is considered as structuring society), the cultural pessimism (a consequence of educational stagnation), the reappearance of stratification in society (the social rise of democracy is giving way to the establishment of a new oligarchy), the impact of the changes provoked by globalization, and the possibility of a reemergence of class struggle (a consequence of the disappearance of the middle classes). In this new work, which does not take anyone into any camp, Emmanuel Todd once again takes on the role of historian and observer and is passionate about this essential subject: where is our society heading?.
