To get straight to the point: This book is not about the Bläss, the mostly unsupervised mixed-breed farm dog that makes life difficult for hikers in the Appenzellerland and large parts of Switzerland. Rather, it focuses on the cultural history of the purebred Appenzeller Sennenhund, which unfortunately suffers from the poor reputation of unruly mutts but, as a well-trained breed dog, firmly establishes its place as a family, leisure, and working dog. The standard work on the Appenzeller Sennenhund traces the history of dogs and Swiss Sennenhunde to the history of the Appenzeller Sennenhund, which is closely linked to the development of agriculture in the Appenzellerland.
