Antioxidative Eigenschaften der Blätter und Stängel von Aristolochia indica

Aristolochia indica is a traditionally used medicinal plant that is attributed with antioxidant, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the in vitro antioxidant activity in the leaves and stems of Aristolochia indica. Enzymatic antioxidants such as catalase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione S-transferase, and non-enzymatic antioxidants (ascorbic acid, polyphenols, carotenoids, tocopherol, and flavonoids) were analyzed. The activity of free radical scavengers (inhibition of nitric oxide, superoxide generation, and in vitro lipid peroxidation, as well as the activity of DPPH free radical scavengers and hydrogen peroxide radical scavengers) from various extracts of Aristolochia indica was also observed. The results obtained in this study indicated that Aristolochia indica could be a good source of natural antioxidants.
