Product details

The volume takes up the lines of thought that Ernst Tugendhat has elaborated in his book "Ego-Centrism and Mysticism." The religion, which played a marginal role alongside mysticism in the previous book, now comes to the forefront. For the new edition, Ernst Tugendhat has expanded the volume with two new contributions: "Nazism and Universalism. Is universalist morality historically explainable?" and "Once again on normative equality." Whatever metaphysics may mean, it is reduced, according to the thesis of this book, to anthropology, because all metaphysical themes prove to be elements of human understanding. Furthermore, Ernst Tugendhat provides another explanation for the primacy of anthropology: Everything historical loses its validity for us if it can only be justified by tradition; thus, the question of the essence of humanity remains when everything that belongs only to traditions is pulled away like a curtain. But what is philosophical anthropology, and how does it differ from empirical anthropology? The book addresses these questions and also deals with anthropological individual topics such as free will, intellectual honesty, morality, religion, and our relationship with death.
