Over 200,000 people died as a result of National Socialist "euthanasia". The number of those who suffered irreversible psychological and physical damage through forced sterilisation or inhumane experiments in the concentration camps and other institutions is much higher. The individual became a number, an unwanted part of the "Volksgemeinschaft". The suffering of the victims on the Rhine and Sieg, as well as the system that made them so, has been researched by the Rhine-Sieg District together with the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and History since 2017 in a wide-ranging study. The study looks specifically at the deeds and perpetrators, but above all at the people affected and their fates. The focus is on forced sterilisations of the sick and the murder of people with mental or intellectual impairments.
