Different theories have been developed regarding the possible connections between the financial sector of an economy and real economic growth, and numerous empirical studies exist. However, these mostly focus on the banking sector and stock markets. Bond markets are much less frequently the subject of research, even though they are an important part of the financial sector. This book addresses that gap. The author first provides a solid theoretical discussion of the microeconomic determinants of bond financing. Subsequently, macroeconomic relationships are presented, and potential growth effects that can be triggered by bond markets are discussed. An empirical investigation of the relationships between financing through bond issuances and real economic growth forms the core of this book.
