The topic of fear is playing an increasingly significant role in our society. According to statistics, one in seven Europeans suffers from pathological anxiety, with a rising trend. Unfortunately, we must acknowledge that this trend is also evident in our dogs. Traumatic experiences and/or a lack of socialization can lead to a dog developing excessive fears. They live in a world where all stimuli are fundamentally met with distrust and fear until their harmlessness has been proven. The quality of life for these dogs and their owners is significantly impaired. In her book, Bettina Specht first clarifies the meaning of various terms. What do we understand by fear, anxiety, anxiousness, trauma, etc.? What is a panic attack, and how does it differ from a phobia? A way to access the fears of our dogs is explored.
