Product details
This compact textbook demonstrates, through concrete examples programmed in Java, how information can be exchanged between systems over a network. It explains common data exchange formats and protocols. The material covered in the book encompasses the entire field of technical communication, from data formats to protocols, and even to the sending of network telegrams. Through this broad selection of topics, the reader gains an understanding of the typical problems encountered in the application of network technology, from data representation in a file format to data exchange via standard protocols, and even to the definition of simple, custom protocols based on TCP/IP. The focus is on the application of networks. The third edition addresses the evolution of the Java world and now presents the examples with Maven dependencies. The chapter on web services has been adapted to OpenJDK and Jakarta. To account for the increasing importance of OT technologies, MQTT has been newly included alongside OPC-UA. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Valentin Plenk studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He earned his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. After completing his doctorate, he developed hardware and software for the control of special machines in the semiconductor sector in a responsible position. Since 2000, Valentin Plenk has been a professor at Hof University, where he represents the field of control engineering and has led the research group on Cyber-Physical Systems at the Institute for Information Systems since 2016, a position he took over in October 2017. In 2020, he transitioned to the university administration as Vice President for Research and Development.
