Working on and with death is still a taboo in our society. How can relatives be supported by carers in coping with this difficult life situation? To this end, this thesis develops a counselling model that serves as a basis for conversations that carers have with relatives who accompany a dying person. The model is based on the principles for ethics in nursing according to Rabe. In this counselling model counselling is understood as empowerment. The basis of the counselling should be a caring attitude of the counsellor: in the sense of the palliative care approach, a "nest warmth of security" should be created. For the anamnesis and analysis of the family system, the theory of systemic balance according to Friedemann is used. At the heart of the counselling model are the three pillars of the sense of coherence.
