Andreas Schiller's painting belongs in the context of the New Leipzig School. For 20 years, he has been exploring the aesthetic structures of meaning in ever-new cycles of paintings, delving into what could be described as the global language of the present - namely, that global image culture from which a kind of universal memory has developed. Global Backup II is a risky attempt to reduce the entire arsenal of symbols and carriers of meaning from the current image world society to archetypal patterns within the traditional medium of the panel painting. In the format of a monumental panoramic image, the evolutionary matrix of the visual global culture of the 21st century is made visible for the first time.
