André Thomkins

The Swiss artist André Thomkins (1930-1985) began a phase of intense work with the medium in 1976 at the copperplate printing workshop of Peter Kneubühler in Zurich. In 1978, he also moved his residence to Zurich after having lived in Essen since 1954. He had consistently maintained his contacts in Switzerland over the years. Even after his move to Munich in 1982, he kept his friendships formed during his years in Zurich until his sudden death in 1985. Paul Tanner now provides a first insight into the life and work of André Thomkins during his Zurich years in this new book. In addition to reflections on the works created during this time, he outlines the people who held special significance for Thomkins: his wife, the German artist Eva Schnell, and his later companions Elisabeth Pfäfflin and Elly F.
