Andalusien

Andalusia, Spain's southernmost and second-largest region, impresses with the traces of its intertwined history. Andalusian art is shaped by the significant influence of Islamic culture. During their nearly 800 years of rule, the Moors gave a visible expression to their superiority in Christian Europe through architecture. After the Reconquista of the Iberian Peninsula under the banner of Christianity, the Renaissance and later Baroque styles spread. Thus, the history of Andalusian art experiences two glorious and enduringly formative epochs that meet directly in many places: the time of the Moors and the Baroque during the Golden Age. As diverse as the numerous art historical testimonies of Andalusia are, so too is its landscape: beaches, deserts, marshes, snow-capped mountain peaks, and tropical fruit plantations lie in close proximity to one another.
