Nothing has changed the relationship with space and time as quickly as the railway. The opening of the Southern Railway line from Vienna to Trieste on July 27, 1857, was considered a sensation, as the connection over the Alps to the Adriatic in just 13 hours of travel was a significant pioneering achievement and a technical masterpiece at the time. Hannes Nothnagl, the director of the Winter Sports Museum, and his colleague Barbara Habermann not only document the impressive railway technology but also the work and daily life along the Southern Railway from 1857 to the present day. On the occasion of the exhibition for the 150th anniversary of the Southern Railway, they have selected around 200 photographs from the Winter Sports Museum, the Mürzzuschlag Local Museum, and private albums. The images are complemented by many personal accounts and impressions that tell of the people's connection to the railway. This book allows E.
