Amharic Textbook

The Amharic Textbook is a comprehensive teaching resource that focuses on the Amharic language, spoken in the province of Shoa and in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It provides a detailed introduction to the sounds of the Amharic language as well as the Amharic alphabet. In a total of 50 lessons, morphology and syntax are covered, with each lesson explaining specific grammatical features and supplemented with relevant vocabulary and exercises. After every five lessons, there is a review unit, and every three to four lessons, connected stories are presented. From lessons 16 to 34, a dramatized dialogue between the characters Almaz and Yohannes is introduced. The textbook concludes with an Amharic-English and an English-Amharic dictionary, tables of various grammatical forms, and an index of grammatical features. It conveys the fundamental characteristics of the language and enables learners to speak the language and read simple texts.
