"Amazonian Dark Earths: Explorations in Space and Time" is a scholarly book that explores the regenerative properties of anthropogenic Amazonian Dark Earths. These soils, created in the past by indigenous peoples of the Amazon, demonstrate that even tropical soils considered infertile can be significantly improved. The soil enhancement practices employed by ancient Amerindians allowed for intensive land use without the need to constantly clear new fields. Given the increasing pressure on tropical forests from rising populations, the legacy of these fertile, vibrant soils is of great importance for the development of sustainable management methods.
