Four teenagers, four different drug careers. This novel stirs emotions and pulls no punches, but it also shows paths and alternatives. Theo and Ricco, both 16 years old, are unlikely friends: While Theo has a confident demeanor, approaches girls openly, and deals drugs, the insecure Ricco is exploited by Lissi, whom he secretly loves. A shared night out at the disco for Theo and Ricco has far-reaching consequences that the gripping novel depicts in parallel.

Due to a drug raid at his parents' house, Theo must go to a boarding school in Switzerland. He is supposed to break free from drugs and catch up on his school diploma. However, he meets the attractive, alcohol-dependent Alice, with whom he eventually runs away. Ricco, on the other hand, ends up in a psychiatric hospital after having a breakdown under the influence of drugs. There, he confronts the various consequences of excessive drug use.

Theo and Ricco, as well as Lissi and Alice, get a chance for a fresh start without drugs. However, not everyone succeeds in breaking free from the cycle of addiction.
