Belfast, 1992. Former Detective Inspector Sean Duffy has recently moved to Scotland with his family. He is only in Belfast for a few days at a time. However, when a landscape painter is murdered, Duffy has to extend his stay. It all looks like a car theft gone deadly: someone was after the victim's Jaguar, got caught by surprise, and a gun went off. But a look at the painter's works raises the question of how he could have earned enough money for a luxury car. And why did he regularly call a phone number in the Republic of Ireland? A number that leads to IRA officials in exile. Duffy won't settle for simple answers and digs deeper. Until he finds himself under fire from all sides. In 1990s Belfast, everything suddenly feels different: the milkman has quit his job, music comes from CDs, and Catholic cop Sean Duffy is a family man with his primary residence in Scotland. But when he is called in on a dubious murder case, Duffy is determined to prove that an old dog can indeed learn new tricks.
