The couple Christine Meile and Udo Karl has created a small rose paradise in their own garden. In "Old Roses - Old Times," they portray more than 400 varieties and species - from noble Alba roses to robust Gallica varieties and ancient wild roses. Each rose featured can also be found in the Meiles' garden. This is what makes the descriptions so unique: they are based on personal experiences and provide valuable tips for winter protection, challenging locations, and the question of varietal authenticity for delicate beauties. The texts are framed by more than 500 impressive rose photographs by photographer Christine Meile. Additionally, the authors delve into the fascinating world of rose history, rose collectors, and writers, particularly from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Through stories and source findings, they reflect on the time from which these roses originate.
